The collection consists of the papers of Anderson M. Scruggs from 1926-1959. The papers include correspondence (1926-1959), galley proofs and typescripts, photographs, scrapbooks, sheet music, lecture notes, memorabilia, and printed material. Typescripts are of the manuscripts for two books of poems (there are also galleys for three books) and of three signed poems; most correspondence pertains to his poetry and its publication; lectures contain poems; memorabilia includes membership cards, a name plate, and a fountain pen; photographs are of Scruggs; printed material includes articles, clippings, and pamphlets.

Anderson McLaren Scruggs, dentist, educator, and poet, was born 18 February 1897, in West Point, Georgia, and died 28 January 1955, in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the Atlanta-Southern Dental College (1925), which became the Emory University School of Dentistry (1944), where he taught for thirty years (1926-1955). He was the author of four books of poetry, GLORY OF EARTH (1933), RITUAL FOR MYSELF (1941), I HEAR THEM IN THE DAWN (1948), and WHAT SHALL THE HEART REMEMBER? (1951) and publish...
